In the sunbaked streets of Martinez, California, a cycling revolution is quietly taking shape. Team California, a squad of under-23 riders, represents a crucial bridge in American cycling – the challenging leap from junior racing to the elite ranks. Now, they're getting a boost for the second straight year from New York-based cycling apparel maker Verge.
It's a partnership born from necessity. Back in 2013, AJ Kennedy noticed a problem: talented young riders were getting lost in the gap between junior and elite racing. His solution was Team California, a development program designed to nurture emerging talent through that critical transition.
"These riders need more than just races to enter – they need the complete package," explains Kennedy, Team California's Managing Director. "Having Verge's support gives our riders the same pro-level gear used by champions, which is crucial as they develop their careers."
For Verge, backing Team California aligns perfectly with their commitment to youth development. "Supporting young riders isn't just about providing kit," notes Charlie Issendorf, VP of Sales & Marketing at Verge. "It's about giving them the tools to compete at their best as they chase their goals."
As Team California's riders take to North American roads in 2025, they'll be wearing more than just cycling kit. They'll be wearing proof that someone believes in their potential.
